The World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) newest Intellectual Property (IP) Youth Ambassador is 22-year-old Oxana Zaporoniuc from the Republic of Moldova. Oxana has designed an innovative glass bottle packaging that minimizes the use of cardboard and other materials to promote sustainability. Her design ensures product security with a smart locking function while avoiding the need for additional graphic design or extra materials on the packaging.
Oxana’s creative and eco-friendly packaging design was registered with the Moldovan State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) in 2023, with plans to license it for commercial use. This achievement earned her the prestigious title of WIPO IP Youth Ambassador in 2024, making her the fifteenth representative to join this initiative, representing Moldova.
Her Journey as an IP Youth Ambassador
The WIPO IP Youth Ambassadors initiative aims to raise awareness of intellectual property among young creators and innovators, encouraging them to protect their innovations and contribute to their communities. As part of this initiative, Oxana will inspire other young people by explaining the importance of IP and encouraging them to safeguard their creative processes. During her time as an ambassador, Oxana will receive training in public speaking and advocacy through the IP4Youth&Teachers Program.
This WIPO initiative, launched in 2018, aims to empower young innovators by increasing their awareness of IP protection. Through WIPO’s training, Oxana has not only learned how to protect her own creative projects but will also share this knowledge with her peers to raise awareness.
A Step Forward in Sustainable Packaging Innovation
Oxana’s minimalist packaging design for glass containers stands out for being both eco-friendly and practical. This journey, which began as a university project for developing sustainable packaging solutions, earned her the "Best Newcomer" award at the Pro Carton Young Designers Awards.
The WIPO IP Youth Ambassadors initiative encourages young creators worldwide to protect their projects and contribute to a sustainable future.
